The Opening Night Festivities took place on Saturday, the 2nd of December at the Honolulu Hale (530 S. King Street). The program consisted of the Tree Lighting Ceremony, the unveiling of 56 new animal themed ornaments adorning the city’s 50-foot holiday tree and the Electric Light Parade which began at Aala Park and went down King Street to Honolulu Hale, where the wagons stopped and were parked in front of Honolulu Hale for people to take pictures with them. Furthermore there was the Employee Decorated Tree Exhibit in Courtyard, Santa’s Gingerbread House and Enchanted Forest Display in Courtyard and the Wreath Display in Lane Gallery. Later that night there was also the opportunity to take free photos with Santa in the Mission Memorial Auditorium and a Holiday Concert at Sky Gate.

The Honolulu City Lights also features, this year like every year since 1989, the 21 feet high and 2 tons heavy Shaka Santa and his wife. The couple can be found sitting on the fountain right next to the city’s holiday tree in front of Honolulu Hale.

Honolulu City Lights will be open daily from 8 am to 11 pm until January 1st 2018.
